Introduction to Focusing-Oriented Therapy

With John L Threadgold

Focusing-Oriented therapy is rooted and grounded in the person-centred approach to therapy developed by Carl Rogers. It is regarded as one of the ‘tribes of the person centred nation’.  It is also a research based therapy, with over 50 studies showing its effectiveness in helping clients to feel better about themselves and make constructive changes to their lives.

This two day workshop will cover.

–       A definition of Focusing-oriented therapy and its roots in the person centred approach…

–       Research into how clients use therapy, from Kirtner and Cartwright, Gendlin and others, and the correlation between client experiencing levels, and therapeutic outcomes.

–       How to  spot successful clients and not get in their way

–       Inviting clients to experience  deeper /higher experiencing levels in all clients through offering reflective listening and deepening proposals

–       Introduction to Guided Focusing, including focusing partnership skills, for self-development, and exploration of how Guided Focusing fits into FOT.

–       Integration of FOT into your counselling theory and practise, and access to further training and resources.

On completion of this two day workshop, you may, if you feel ready to do so, enter onto the Focusing Partnership page of the British Focusing Association, ( formally known as BFTA)
