Today, in the UK, we live in a multigendered, sexually and socially<\/span><\/span>inclusive country where the freedom to be whoever you want to be <\/span><\/span>\u2014 and to fancy whoever you want to fancy \u2014 is cherished and <\/span><\/span>celebrated. This is not to deny the parallel reality of discrimination <\/span><\/span>and oppression still experienced by many lgbt people, from subtle <\/span><\/span>daily micro-aggressions to the more pernicious hate crimes <\/span><\/span>perpetuated. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our lexicon has expanded. Facebook now has 71 options to <\/span><\/span>describe your gender. While not everyone\u2019s chosen self-description, <\/span><\/span>the word \u2018queer\u2019 has been reclaimed as a positive and inclusive <\/span><\/span>term, representing a smorgasbord of identities. Sexuality, too, is <\/span><\/span>viewed with more nuance. Fifty per cent of millennials don\u2019t <\/span><\/span>consider themselves straight and see gender and sexuality in <\/span><\/span>shades of grey, not black and white.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

What is your experience of your gender, your sexuality, sex and <\/span><\/span>relationships? What choices have you made and what has informed <\/span><\/span>those choices? Do you experience your gender and sexuality as <\/span><\/span>biological? As socially constructed? As chosen? <\/span><\/span><\/span>Are you <\/span><\/span>monogamous, open or polyamorous? Are you Asexual or <\/span><\/span>Demisexual?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Leah is a Person Centred Psychotherapist, Supervisor and Trainer. She is a <\/span><\/span>Clinical Associate at Pink Therapy and a Senior Accredited Sexual Diversity <\/span><\/span>Therapist . She was co-tutor on the Pink Therapy Post-Graduate Diploma in <\/span><\/span>Gender and Sexual Diversity Therapy, and Course Director and co-tutor for the <\/span><\/span>Post-Graduate Diploma in Relationship Therapy with Gender, Sexual and Lifestyle <\/span><\/span>Diverse clients. In her psychotherapy practice she has worked with gender and <\/span><\/span>sexually diverse clients, individually and in relationships, for 30 years. She <\/span><\/span>believes that there are different forms to relationships, and her client base reflects <\/span><\/span>this.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
